Whether you have been making space at home to create a home office, or your supply chain has been affected by Lockdown, firms offering self storage can help to provide somewhere to keep your belongings or stock safe and easily accessible. We caught up with Dean Daly from blue self storage in South Wales to find out how they have reacted to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Tell us a bit about yourself and the business
Formerly Cardiff Self Storage, we’ve been operating from our flagship site since 1988, and we really are experts in storage! We are accredited members of the Self Storage Association (SSA) and hold the prestigious Gold Award from CASSoA (Caravan Storage Site Owners Association).
We re-branded to blue self storage in July 2019, which enabled us to roll out our ambitious plans outside of our home city. I joined the business shortly after the re-brand, and am very lucky that I have inherited an amazing team and I believe we’re ready to push on to the next level.
What does the future hold for your business?
Last month we opened our second facility – our long awaited self storage site in Llanishen, Cardiff. The site has great transport links to the M4 and North of Cardiff, we’re really excited to be part of the Llanishen business community.
The site is now OPEN to assist essential businesses and industries in need of storage.
We are by no mean resting on our laurels – we have exciting plans for the future, having already acquired our third site in Swansea, which is scheduled to open later this year, whilst also being in discussions to acquire a further site in Cardiff and another in Newcastle.
What storage services do you offer?
We are able to offer a range of storage solutions, including domestic storage in a range of units from 64 sq ft to 180 sq ft, open storage for caravans, motorhomes and commercial vehicles, and storage for commercial clients. Our minimum term in most instances is only 1 month, or 6 months for some vehicle storage.
How you have adapted as a business during these times?
We have remained open during this uncertain time to aid essential businesses such as fuel suppliers, freight and many more. We even decommissioned our on-site gym and created a 3D visor printing facility!
Although we’ve remained open, the safety of our customers and staff is paramount so we have done everything we can to minimise risk. We updated our risk assessment and implemented safe working practices. Our office remains closed to the public, however we have rolled out digital processes to replace face to face interaction, taking payments online and over the phone and obtaining electronic signatures. We have placed extra signage in and around site to remind people about the importance of maintaining social distancing.
We have communicated these changes to our customers throughout. We are learning everyday!
What value you can offer to people right now?
